Creating knowledge is the original purpose of academic work. Conferences play an important role in creating and developing knowledge. In an over connected world through smart phones computers, tablets and other devices, face-to-face interaction is increasingly neglected. However, it is often at those encounters that major advances in knowledge creation and new idea development happen. Therefore, conferences have never been as important as today to accelerate the knowledge creation process in management as well as in sport management. The European Academy of Management (EURAM) community and conference is one example for face-to-face collaboration between academics and their institutions. The Managing Sport Strategic Interest Group (SIG) has been part of this community since 2009. More than 50 researchers and practitioners from various areas came together in Reykjavik (Iceland) with a joint interest to present and discuss how sport is managed around the world and how this can be improved.
