"Myths and Legends of the Mississippi Valley and the Great Lakes" by various and edited by Katharine Berry Judson is a collection of myths and legends from the United States' Native American populations in the Great Lakes region. While these stories were mostly passed down through word of mouth, Judson saw fit to put them in writing to keep them from being lost to history. The tales in this collection come from the following tribes: Winnebago, Chitimacha, Wyandot, Biloxi, Ojibwa, Mandan, Menomini, Cherokee, Sioux, Knisteneaux, Choctaw (Bayou Lacomb), Fox, and Natchez.
