This is the true story of Lonkey, an eleven-year-old Jewish boy who escaped from Nazi-occupied Poland in 1939 only to be deported to a Siberian slave-labor camp. When the German invasion of Russia ironically freed Lonkey and his family, he began a two-year journey over thousands of miles by land and sea to find freedom in what was then Palestine. Lonek's Journey is illustrated with maps and black-and-white historic photographs that help to tell not only Lonek's story, but the stark and undeniable story of a generation of persecuted children.
