CONTROLLED DRUGS AND CANNABIS

Canada's federal drug control statute sets out a detailed listing of controlled drugs and substances, providing authorities with a broad set of powers regarding search and seizure and other measures that may limit personal liberty, with implications for criminal law, health law, constitutional law, consumer safety laws and even real estate law. In October 2018, possession, consumption and other activities in relation to cannabis became legal, and federal, provincial and territorial legislation was enacted to regulate its quantities and requirements.
