SARS Coronavirus which killed 800 people in 2003 sparked a race for a vaccine among nations and competing private drug companies. Like the current pursuit of a vaccine for COVID-19, many famous scientists were involved in the effort. Among them were Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the Infectious Disease Center. Also actively involved was Dr. Gary Nabel, a researcher at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Vaccine Research Center.
