고구려에는 국초부터 기록 100권이 있어 '유기(留記)'라고 하였는데, 이는 우리 서술에서 가장 오래된 것이며, 이후에 영양왕(陽王) 11년(서기 600)에 이르러 태학(太學)박사 이문진(李文眞)으로 하여금 이를 다듬어서 잘 정리(刪修)한 신집(新集) 5권을 만들었다. 광개토대왕의 비문과 을지문덕의 수장(隋將) 우중문(于仲文)에게 보낸 오언시(五言詩)는 현존하는 가장 오래된 문자이다.<본문 중에서>
