There is a need for a popular, systematic presentation of the Montessori Method. The Montessori Revolution in Education is just such a book. It clearly presents the wealth of Maria Montessori's ideas, and goes on to describe how the Montessori school is actually working in the United States. Part One, 'Montessori Principles,' is a succinct summary of the essential philosophy. Part Two 'Montessori illustrated.' demonstrates with a wealth of photographs the didactic materials (teaching devices) in actual use by children around the world. Part three, 'Montessori in Action' is first-hand reportage on the 'new children' at work, and the supplement deals with Montessori schools in the United States. More important, however, Mr. Standing stresses that the dottoressa was concerned with something more profound than pedagogical techniques: 'The Montessori movement stands for something very much wider and deeper than a new method of teaching...It represents the beginning of a great new social revolution based on the revelation of the hitherto unknown potentialities of childhood.'" E. Mortimer Standing, a teacher of wide experience, first met Maria Montessori in 1921, and for the next thirty years worked in close collaboration with her."
