Charlie lives in a small village in Norfolk. Her life revolves around school, work and watching her favourite local band, 'Projects'. Thankfully her friend Ryan is on hand to drive her to all of these things. With A Levels over, Charlie begins the longest summer of her life. During celebrations with her best friends, Dot and Ryan, she agrees to accompany the band on a tour of the UK.
Charlie agrees to travel with Ryan. Unsure that his car is up to it, he buys a retired ice cream van to act as transport and accommodation. Nicknamed 'Alice Scooper', Charlie falls in love with it on sight, not least when she eventually realises its money making potential.
The tour takes in the many and varied highlights of the United Kingdom: Wakefield, Hull and Durham to name but a few. With each passing venue, Charlie grows in confidence as she is away from all that has shaped her as a person to this point. Her friendship with Dot is tested as they clash over their sexual identities and how they want the people in their life to see them. But it's the development in her friendship with Ryan that has the biggest impact and, whilst wanting nothing more than to watch her favourite band all summer, she finds herself falling in love.
