This Understanding treatise examines the multifaceted and complex area of private-sector labor law. The treatise is more concise than a casebook but contains more citation to cases and other authorities than other labor law overviews. It is comprehensive enough to be adopted and used by law and other professors as the primary textbook for a labor law course, yet succinct enough to be used as an aid for those seeking to understand dense material.

The treatise focuses on private sector labor relationships, dealing primarily with the National Labor Relations Act, as amended, and its interpretation and application by federal courts and the National Labor Relations Board. Organized in a format consistent with the organization of most labor law courses, the book is comprehensive, containing up-to-date chapters on exceptions to employment-at-will and international labor law as well as on traditional labor law topics. Each chapter concludes with reader-friendly "Chapter Highlights," summarizing the major doctrines discussed in the chapter.
