This book is a collection of seven short stories. They tackle events from the past and present, but they are all contemporary in either form or content. The first three stories"El-Moskey", "Notron Valley" and "Beyond the High Heels" belong to magic realistic literature where the strange is being naturalized; and so, it resolves within the realisticcontext of the stories. Moreover, these stories highlight local and national elements like the myths of Anti-Christ, the Pharaonic Anubis, and Quais and Laila to challenge thewest which had formerly colonized Egypt. On the contrary, "The Broken Wing" is a realistic story that treats marital relationship in the age of globalization where womanundergoes certain changes: she criticizes the barren customs and traditions in her society, challenges man when he oppresses her and strives to assert her identity. Besides, "The Spinster" is a surrealistic story that discusses friendship and treason in an imaginative way and shows physical metamorphosis as an uncanny feature in the text. Finally, the last two stories "The Fortuneteller" and "Kosher Food!" assert the virtue of religious tolerance and highlight Judaism as a holy celestial religion despite the Arabs'hatred of the Zionist thought.
