As the Allies advanced up the Rhône river valley the Nazi hierarchy demanded the total destruction of the French wine industry. The resistance fought back and violence erupted on the Colmar plain. In the grand wineries and elegant chateau's the sommeliers plotted to save whatever they could of their precious treasures - the wines of eastern France. Bottle by bottle, barrel by barrel, the workers of the Château du Schoppenwihr hid their precious wines just as the Nazis descended on the place they called La Maison Rouge.
