Foraminifera are unicellular microfauna that prefer to live in the marine environment; from deep oceanic water so shallow marginal marine habitats like the mangroves and salt marshes. Foraminifera are characteristically different from amoebae; they can produce single or multi chambered shells. These shells are made up of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) or sediment particles.
