This work beautifully described the efforts of women for the sake of the soldier during World War I. All over the British and Allied countries, the magnificent work of women shone out brightly in contrast to the dark background of the barbaric atrocities of war. People witnessed great acts of courage, patience, sacrifice, untiring energy, and devotion from women. The writer, Rita Macleod, aimed to present the effects of the brutal war on women that led them to rise to the spiritual and ideal heights evoked by the crisis of the war. This is one of the earliest works that did justice to women by depicting the services these unsung heroes provided and all they went through.
