The body of a veteran is found floating on the river. Jonah was a troulbed vet and a writer of a book on he history of Indians, working on a fiction story set in the days before the massacre at Wounded Knee. Police think suicide but his best friend and ex loer think maybe murder and investigate. They make plenty of mistakes, wondering if they had let their friend down and along the way they fall in love. Yet the truth still comes out.
