A native of Brooklyn, New York, Mollie Parnis was one of three sisters who became noteworthy in the fashion industry. After marrying a textile salesman, Mollie and her spouse formed Parnis-Livingstone dress house. Parnis was among the first American designers who was renowned for her own label, rather than a department store she represented. A graduate of Wadleigh High, Mollie entered Hunter College. At first she was intent on studying law. Her fashions have received significant awards, including an International Silk Association award for good design. Parnis is also remembered for designing the first United States Cadet Corps uniform.
