This is the first novel written by the great Swedish dramatist, Strindberg. It was considered at the time to be Sweden's first modern novel. Many people would still define it this way. The plot centers around Arund Falk, who is an aspiring journalist, and the characters he meets. It is set in 19th-century Stockholm.
