"Cousin Betty," also known as "La Cousine Bette," is a novel by French author Honoré de Balzac. Set in mid-19th-century Paris, it tells the story of an unmarried middle-aged woman. Together with Valérie Marneffe, she plots the destruction of her extended family by seducing and tormenting a series of men.
