Regardless of one's political perspective and leanings, the rise of right-wing movements defines contemporary society. One may like it or one may not. Some may believe it endangers contemporary society; others may feel politicians of the Right are uniquely qualified to protect society. Some, undoubtedly, feel threatened by the rhetoric associated with the Right; others may well resonate with that tone, feeling it essential in the face of threats, whether perceived or exaggerated.

Populist and Islamist Challenges for International Law reflects sober analysis of a trend that largely defines the contemporary age and focuses, in part - but by no means exclusively - on the impact of free speech and its possible limits. The authors pay particular attention to the use of rhetoric within the context of the rise of right-wing movement. Topics treated include militant democracy - how a democracy protects itself from internal threats - multiculturalism, immigration, nationalism, nationalist-racist rhetoric, the limits of free speech, and Islamism.
