Odoacer vanquished Romulus Augustus who was the last emperor of the combined Eastern and Western Roman Empires. Odoacer was from the Sciri, a Germanic tribe that settled in the middle Danube region. Odoacer's father, Idici, was a leader of the Sciri. He was a Germanic foederati leader. Odoacer ruled as titular head of the Western Roman Empire for a decade. He was eventually defeated by Theodoric the Great after retreating to Ravenna, the western Roman capital, as a last resort. Before his defeat Odoacer had successfully beaten Orestes, who'd failed to distribute lands as he'd promised various barbarian leaders.
