Kitty Younger is delighted finally to be old enough to travel on her own, and looks forward to her holiday at Castle Crayle with her friend Marcia. But when she arrives at the Castle, things aren't quite as she expected and the next few days are very difficult indeed. Kitty's argumentative nature makes her one or two unpleasant enemies, but she also meets some excellent friends. Besides, staying in an actual castle has to be an exciting adventure, hasn't it?

The Castle does indeed come with one or two myths and legends that need investigating, and Kitty enjoys playing on the beach - until she thinks something is lookng at her from the breakers, anyway. Solving the biggest mystery of all requires some assistance from Perkins the kitchen cat and a lot of unladylike wriggling, but what she finds in the basement makes it all worthwhile.

This is Kitty's second adventure - the first was "Kitty in the Winter Wild" - and she brings to it the same combative, obstinate attitude and lively imagination. "Kitty in the Castle" will be enjoyed by children from eleven or so, and by adults who have retained their sense of fun and adventure.
