When Jake arrives in Oakum, it is not an auspicious start. Things are not the best out at the Cartright place but Jake and his new friend Sam are determined to put things to rights. Still it is not an easy task, not only are they faced with Leeward's cruel riders, but also a band of zealous Mountain Men lusting for vengeance and then to cap it all comes the test of the most modern of inventions.
