Joe Darling is a private eye down on his luck in Portland, Oregon in 1947. In this second book in the series, Joe helps out a pal with the Portland police by investigating a sensational murder case that became the tipping point for reform in the city. The FBI solicits his help, engaging him to work undercover for one of the two biggest crime bosses. Joe becomes closer to his main squeeze Eddie all the while dodging temptation from aggressive females, including a bountiful blonde secretary of the crime boss.
