Insect pests are the major limiting factor in agricultural production in India and known to cause 30000 crores rupees loss annually in India (Reed and Pawar, 1982). Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) the so called American bollworm alone has been reported to cause 3000 crores rupees loss annually to crops like cotton, pulses, vegetables, ornamentals etc. in India (Raheja and Tiwari, 1992).It is known to occur in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam. It has now assumed status of national pest.
