The Apalachin meeting of mobsters at the upstate New York estate of beer distributor Joseph Barbara is a landmark event in Mafia history. Some sixty underworld figures attended the conclave which was surprisingly broken up by New York State Troopers. Many of the attendees were subsequently brought before grand juries and others were imprisoned. Government agents charged that the mobsters who showed up at Barbara's residence hadn't told the real reasons for the conclave. Ignatius Cannone was a Broome County resident who owned two restaurants in Endicott and Endwell. He also did business with Barbara and was considered a minor Mafioso.
