Caz West had spent most of her teenage years without finding the intimate friendship for which she longed. Aged eighteen and having been a gifted student, she wins a place at the prestigious Cambridge University and finds herself away from home for the first time. Some time later and purely by chance, she meets Emma Campbell, a young woman from the opposite end of the country and the daughter of profoundly homophobic parents. Caz is instantly attracted to her and intent on maintaining some sort of contact.
