Abdul Rahman Razak was born in Gemas , Negeri Sembilan in October 1946. Upon completing his SixthForm at Sekolah Alam Shah in 1966, he joined Faculty of Agriculture in 1966/67 academic year andgraduated with Bachelor of Agriculture Science Degree in 1970. He started his career as a lecturer inAgronomy at Kolej Pertanian Malaya in April 1970 and subsequently University of Agriculture (UPM) in1972 until 1996. He pursued his Ph.D degree at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in October 1971 and conferred degree in Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Diploma of Imperial College(D.I.C) in December 1975. He continued as a lecturer in Plant Pathology/Nematology at UniversitiPutra Malaysia(UPM) and was promoted as an Associate Professor in 1980 and as a Professor in 1990.He retired in October 2002 and continued as a contract Professor until 2004. He served as a ResearchAssociate at Microscopy Unit, Institute of Bioscience, University Putra Malaysia from BeeembeF 1005to November 2006. He joined UMT in December 2007 as a contract Professor until December 2011.Abdul Rahman Razak had a wide experience in administrative task. He was the Head ofDepartment of Plant Protection from 1980 to 1985, Deputy Dean (Research), Faculty of Agriculturefrom 1985 to 1993 and the Head of Theme for Research and Innovation Centre at UMT since January2009. He was also the Members of Senate (1978-2002), University Research Committee, UniversityFranchised Program and Quality Assessment Committee, Strategic Planning Committee UPM,(Agriculture), Panel Member of the Professional Committee UPM, for IRP Grant, Co-Chairman ofInternational Pesticide Resistance course jointly organized between UPM and Plant PathologyDepartment, Wageningen, The Netherlands in 1985, Leader of UPM-lmperial College Joint ResearchCollaboration in Pest Management from 1984 to 1993 Fruit Research Program with Wye College,University of London from 1990 to 1993 and UPM-Saga University Japan 1989-1993. He was tasked toform the Tripartite Link among UPM-lmperial College and Saga University on Entomopathogenicnematodes for Biological Control of Insect Pest from 1990-1993. He was the Chairman ofInterdisciplinary and Interdepartmental National Bee Research Program from 1986 to 1993 andChairman in Developing Field 2, UPM for dedicated research area for Faculty of Agriculture and BeePlant Garden at UPM.Abdul Rahman Razak had contributed his expertise in agriculture field at national andinternational level. He discovered the feeding tube in feeding of nematodes which change globalresearch approach in understanding the host parasite relationship of nematodes and plants. He alsodiscovered a new species of plant parasitic nematode, Xiphinema winotoi. Razak and Loof. He wasinvited to deliver his speech at the Millennium Turfgrass Conference and Trade Exhibition 2000 inMelbourne, Australia. Among his involvement in professional societies are: Life Member of MalaysianPlant Protection Society since 1978, Life Member of Electron Microscopic Society of Malaysia, Memberof Society of Nematology, United States of America, Member of European Society of Nematology andMember of American Society of Plant Biologists.
