Monkeying Around at Sea follows Angela Coe's two year voyage from Singapore to Spain in a ferro Cement boat, 'Sandpiper'. Angela travelled alongside a monkey called Pixie and her own cat called Bob-tail with no previous experience of sailing.

Disasters start from day one when still at anchor. Pixie goes overboard and is thought to be lost. Bobby, the Captain, lands up in hospital with a dislocated shoulder... When they finally set sail in a depression they end up on a sand bank.

The aim is to go to England to avoid quarantine, but their plan to go around the cape changes to braving the Red Sea. The idea of getting to England is also given up when they realise that Pixie and Bob-tail would still be put in quarantine.

This is not a 'how to sail' book, it's rather a 'how not to sail' book. While tragedies continue on an almost daily pattern, living aboard eventually becomes fun. Pixie, who tried to sabotage the trip, keeps them on their toes. Every port they found was fascinating and all the people they met on the way add enjoyment to the voyage.

Angela Coe was born in 1937 and currently lives in Sri Lanka. She was a compulsive traveller since the age of 19 and spent several years hitching through Europe and Asia. Angela then married and lived in North Wales, Guyana (then British Guyana), Malaysia and then finally Singapore – where she set out on her voyage with her partner and Capitan, Bobby. After the death of Bobby in New Zealand, Angela travelled overland with her brother across Fiji, Solomon Islands, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand to fly back to spend time with their ageing father. Angela later began travelling again and spent several long trips to Africa and Asia to study primates – the furthest trip took her to Timbuktu.
