A novel full of phantasy and depth:Adalbert von Chamiso (1781-1838) was of French origin but migrated to Germany when the Revolution started and in this country he built his prestige as a great poet and novelist, who knew how to give to his writings, within apparent lightness, unique depths. The classical example is his masterwork, "The man who sold his shadow", the story of Peter Schlemiehl, who finds himself isolated from society, after accepting a deal with the devil of bartering his shadow for fortune. A narrative full of incidents and an unexpected ending make from this novel something without parallel.
