bent grass

this path leading through briers and thickets of tall weeds
just enough room to carry on with some spaces wide enough to rest
the sky full of birds and white and silver clouds on blue
then suddenly water sounds and a cool breeze with ocean smells
the path widens into rolling dunes and bent grass
the surf pounding in on house-sized rocks
no one else visible as I walk north trying to find my way home
my mind a mixture of thoughts and feelings left to wander
