This study determined the geological provenance of the two unique Early Neolithic obsidian bladelets (PFO1 and PFO2) found among the numerous ovens identified at the site of Portonovo (Tab. 1), near the city of Ancona. The analyses were carried out at the Department of "Scienze della Terra e Geoambientali" of Bari University where a well-defined outline of the circulation of various Mediterranean sources of obsidian (Monte Arci, Palmarola, Lipari, Pantelleria, Gyali and Melos) was obtained (Acquafredda et alii 1999, Acquafredda, Muntoni 2005; Acquafredda, Muntoni 2008; Acquafredda et alii 2011), mainly with respect to its distribution in Southern and Central Italian Neolithic sites.
