Newcomers are welcome to jump into the American "melting pot" and become one of us - but only if you want to - you don't have to be one of us. You can be you - different, because we want you to know that even if you're different, you're the same as we are. We celebrate and respect your life-style as long as you fit in with our expectations of who you are - or want to be.

Now, having read that, is anyone confused? I am.

Hopefully this book will clear up the labyrinth of garbled communication styles, mishaps, misunderstandings, traditions and lifestyles among the various American peoples (we are not all the same) and the incoming multitude of belief systems couched in the shape of families.

Americans are so innocent; we really believe we are all "the same" - just different. It's American double-think. Our naiveté of ourselves combined with our total
ignorance of other cultures makes for a captivating learning experience. We Americans, God love us, are a wonderful people with so much to learn about other perceptions and life styes. Hopefully, the "others" who are confused by American confusion, can understand our unique life style better.
