The book lies in the field of Legal Studies.
Its practical goal consists in providing an accessible yet challenging introduction into the international and European instruments developed to prevent and combat violence against women and more specifically domestic violence.
The study is carried out from a chronological perspective. Therefore, it starts by presenting the United Nations main instruments adopted for eradicating violence against women and girls, the most important remaining the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). In addition to the legal framework, a detailed analysis of the CEDAW Committee decisions on domestic violence was included.
Similarly, the author examined the Council of Europe main legal instruments adopted in the field of violence against women, the study focusing on the Istanbul Convention. It equally contains a detailed analysis of the most relevant judgments delivered by the European Court of Human Rights in the area of domestic violence.
On a practical level, the book provides a useful resource for legal practitioners, policy makers and NGOs specialized in promoting and defending women's rights
