Kate Merryweather married Lord Mellor of Mellorsdale not for love but to give protection to Richard, Duke of York the only surviving son of the late King Edward the Fourth. It is on the eve of the Battle of Bosworth and she cannot ever imagine that her beloved king Richard the Third will be defeated.
