Clean unpolluted water is also essential for our ecosystems. Plants and animals in lakes,rivers and seas react to changes in their environment caused by changes in chemicalwater quality and physical disturbance of their habitat. Biochemical ecology is herepresented only in the context of water pollution. Effort has been made to use physicaland chemical principles to explain the factors controlling the quality of natural waters.
