George Washington is desperate to keep his rag-tag army together. He sends U.S. Marine Lieutenant Josiah Fitch to Colebrook, Connecticut to assist Aaron Tarbell, a curmudgeon Yankee Privateer, in capturing English shipping in Long Island.

While raiding British shipping, sending military supplies to the Continental Army, and doing battle with the Tory Marines that are devastating Colebrook, Josiah falls in love with Anne Hosking, owner of the Colebrook Inn; marries her and goes on to have many privateer adventures.
