Daniel Curran was getting old, and he knew it. He was retired now, and after years of working and being generally useful, he was finding that retirement wasn't as much fun as he had thought. In short, he was feeling useless...
Until an Alien started talking to him in his head, that is. Not just any Alien, but an Alien AI that controlled a Star Ship, and it asked Daniel for help. When he accepted the responsibility, he thought he would just be useful again.
