Selected members from each of the five tribes were chosen to keep the history and knowledge of the past to aid the changelings of the future. The tribes knew the changelings would come again, but they did not know they would be hunted.

Many changeling children were abandoned by their families. Unable to understand their children, many parents started to fear what their children were becoming and abandoned them in cities around the country. The City of New Bay was the recipient of many changelings. The governing party of New Bay decided it was best to protect, house and teach all the changelings so they would grow up to be an asset to the community, but there was an unknown and unseen hunter within the city.

There was one place that may have offered the safety the changelings needed, but the journey was as dangerous as the city.
