From the Preface:

While reading Carlos Baker's Hemingway, The Writer as Artist, I was surprised to discover that Hemingway did not initiate his career penning novels but wrote poetry and short stories instead. One of his earliest published works is titled Three Stories and Ten Poems. The title I found intriguing because it never occurred to me that I could compose a book of short stories and poetry, mixing genres, as it were.

What follows is a modest offering of both prose and poetry. Four ethnic stories concerning the humble people of Puerto Rico of a bygone age and ten published poems. You, the reader, will judge if I have been successful in this endeavor.
