This news is both shocking and wonderful to Mary, who is unsure of what to do next. However, the angel tells her not to be afraid and that she has been chosen by God for this special task. Charles Bordes composed the tune while researching traditional Basque music. He published several of these traditional songs, and some were popularised elsewhere in Europe.
