Though George Washington Carver was born into slavery, he overcame great obstacles to become a renowned educator and agricultural researcher. He eventually became head of the agricultural department of the Tuskegee Institute. He shared his expertise with farmers, especially poor farmers in the South, to help them get the most out of their crops. Carver's fame spread, and he became a much sought-after speaker by colleges, churches, and government groups. People responded to his humor, sincerity, and intelligence. Carver was a great inspiration and role model to people everywhere.
