The sea shore includes the boundary between land and sea, the land area receiving sprays of sea water, the intertidal area as well as the submerged area of the continental shelf. This coastal area offers a variety of habitats which include the rocky and sandy shores, coral reefs, seagrass beds, mudflats, mangrove forests, estuaries, pelagic and soft bottoms. Within these habitats are secrets waiting to be unveiled through research and studies. The zooplankton in the Straits of Malacca are high in biomass due to high nutrient discharges from the mouths of major rivers.
