This inaugural book focuses primarily on portunid crab's reproductive biology, broodstock development, in-depth breeding techniques and larva rearing. Fundamental knowledge about portunid crab reproduction is described in detail as reproduction is the foundation for establishing any seed production programme. Topics include; i) gonad maturation stages, size at sexual maturity, fecundity and embryonic development for reproductive biology, ii) environmental conditions, nutritional requirements, physiological effects, genetic selection, health status, culture systems and other management practices for broodstock development, iii) natural breeding in captivity and artificial breeding for breeding techniques, and iv) environmental conditions, diet requirements and developing factors for larval rearing. Specific knowledge of portunid crab's reproductive biology essential for hatchery operations as well as recommendations for optimising breeding and culture conditions are shared. In whole, this work allows for a better understanding of the portunid crab's reproduction process and helps pave the way for future sustainable aquaculture of portunid crabs, a commercially important crustacean family in Malaysia.
