In 1956, the American Medical Association Board of Trustees created an ad hoc committee on Medical Rating of Physical Impairment to establish a series of practical guidelines of the rating of physical impairment of the various organ systems.
]Since then, the AMA Guides® have provided a reference framework within which physicians may evaluate and report medical impairments. This framework also helps others understand and make appropriate use of the medical information they receive in impairment evaluation reports.
The Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Third Edition, was first published in March of 1984 and this particular edition is the revised version and published for the first time in 1989 and in 2010 as in hardcover.
