Michael Joseph Scandifia was originally from Brooklyn, The son of a self-employed taxi driver, Michael was an associate of the Gambino crime family. In 1963 he was charged with New York Police Department Patrolman Leonard Grossman with conspiring to kill government informants. Known as Mike Scandi or Scandy, Scandifia ran a Brooklyn service station. He lived in Hillsdale, New Jersey. The plot to kill informants was connected to the distribution of dum dum bullets. Composed of a soft metal, the bullets spread out when they entered a person's body.
