A new threat is on the rise and Emily begins to wonder if Chevalier is more interested in being her savior than her protector. The Cavalry strives to keep her safe while she opens a new dog rescue on the property she once stole from the Valle. She continues her quest to find and revive the former Encala Elders, with help from an unlikely source.

Meanwhile, Dain remains in the Equites prison under Chevalier's watchful eye, at the same time as the other half-heku children begin the long process of integrating into the lives of the heku as they try to break free from the shadow of their famous parents. Emily feels the Equites have finally overstepped and begins a new life on her own.
