The Organization Man is one of the key sociological and business commentaries of modern times. In section one, the text uses interviews Whyte conducted with CEOs of Fortune 500 companies in the 40s and 50s to analyze a shift in corporate culture from a focus on the individual to one of conformity and 'Groupthink.' Section two describes the patterns of suburban development in post-WWII America, and plots these against changes in corporate America. The ideas expressed in The Organization Man have influenced everything from organizational design to pop culture art and its clear analysis is still directly pertinent to contemporary working and living arrangements.
