条约正式签订以前的一种简易签署形式。它通常不具有与正式签字同样的法律效果，只构成对条约约文的认证。草签通常使用于缔约各方意欲在缔约谈判结束以后经过一段时间才举行条约签署的情况。条约草签后，须继之以正式签字。只有正式签字日期方能作为有关国家成为条约签字国的日期。
