Charles Dickens (February 7, 1812 to June 9, 1870) was an influential and prolific British novelist, journalist, and social commentator during the Victorian era.
He wrote such classic and beloved novels as A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations.

His stark portrayals of the treatment of the poor in 19th century England helped to bring about much needed societal reform.
