Punjab, early 1980s. As the separatists and the government threaten the peace of the land, another group—the more affluent feudals on the wane—looks West to escape. Away from all this Dave, a young Sikh, is searching for a place he can call home. Unable to complete his Ph.D In the US, he returns to India without a green card, much to the disappointment of his parents. He moves from Chandigarh to Delhi in search of a job but is trapped in the horrific massacre of Sikhs in 1984. Scarred, he moves to Canada, shuns his life of affluence and is faced with choices that change the course of his life for ever.
