He penned over forty devotional works, but Go and Tell Jesus stands out as one of the most renowned. In it, he entreats readers to make Jesus their primary confidant. He writes, "Ere you take counsel of man or ask sympathy of friendship, ere you confer and communicate with the dearest and nearest earthly friend—go and tell Jesus."
